Spreading Truth thru the Web, #1
Given that I like to frequent message boards, I’ve decided that when I stumble upon something truly inspirational or insightful, I’ll quote if here for others to see. I hope everyone enjoys this new feature.
Dove – Our Relationship to God
One thing that has been pivotal in my remaining LDS is the close relationship I feel with God through the Holy Ghost…….
I’m not so concerned whether the Book of Mormon (or even Bible) is true as I am that I understand if the concepts it is teaching are true and if God then wants me to follow those concepts….

ZionsRodeVos – Dating Advice for Shy People
Find something you are comfortable with doing, for example, playing a board game or soccer or scripture study or something. Then find an opportunity to do what you like with others in your ward, even if it means you do the inviting…. The reason I say this is because if you are doing something you enjoy and are comfortable with, [then]…your mind won’t go blank if the person you are talking to happens to be [the opposite sex] because you know how to keep the game or activity going.

Whitney – A Heartfelt Testimony
I have always believed in God, I pray by talking to him, listening, crying and laughing. I love his words, and to be alive in this world at this time. I struggle every day, and I have much joy every day. I know that God is real, and He lives. When I go to work, I work for Him. When I eat, I thank Him. I know that through countless experiences He loves all of His children. I have been well educated in the world, yet when I come before Him, I am a child, and His hand is there for me. I marvel at the things I do not know. I have seen many miracles with my own eyes. This faith is one of peace and patience. It gives me great peace and comfort to know that I choose to be on the Lord’s side. The Holy Ghost is a wonderful gift. I have experienced many failures, and each time I hear the voice or our dear Lord, “These things will be for your good.” I take great comfort in knowing that I am on the Lords side.

Amy – Getting married–Parents Aren’t Members
My husband is the only member of the church in his family. To be perfectly honest, it is NOT easy to tell your parents that you will be married in the temple if they do not understand why they can’t be there…. You can marry civilly but would have to wait a year to go to the temple. Is that really worth it? To me, I couldn’t live for that year knowing that if anything happened, I would not be sealed to my husband. Marriage is not a temporal thing. It is eternal. It’s sad that we make it so commercial today and that people would settle for the big “hoopla” of a civil wedding when marriage is so much more than that. Of course, that’s a personal choice…. We invited his entire family to the temple grounds for wedding pictures. We then had a chapel service right before our reception, not to exchange rings, but to give talks about what had happened earlier that day and why we believe it is so sacred and important. EVERYONE felt the Spirit. It was amazing. And now, 7 years later, …they don’t remember any feelings of anger or resentment.

Andy – Serving a Mission
I know of quite a few members here [at BYU] that have not served missions…doesn’t make them any less of a person…but I can tell that when I did decide to serve the Lord, it was because the desire to do so filled my heart. I went, and learned to love the people. Learned service. Learned to forget self. Learned of the qualities that I desired out of a future eternal companion…learned a lot from my mission president…and from my companions and leaders and the rest of the missionaries….
